Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of TikTok addiction on the academic achievement of secondary school students through a literature review approach. TikTok, as one of the fastest-growing social media platforms, has become an integral part of teenagers' digital lifestyles. However, excessive use can lead to addictive behavior, potentially affecting students’ concentration, time management, and motivation to learn. This literature review analyzes relevant scholarly articles, journals, and research reports published within the last five years. The findings indicate that TikTok addiction is associated with decreased learning quality, sleep disturbances, and reduced classroom focus. Conversely, several studies suggest that when used in moderation, TikTok can serve as a creative educational tool. Therefore, the influence of TikTok on academic performance is dualistic: it can be detrimental when overused, yet beneficial when integrated thoughtfully into the learning process. This study highlights the importance of parental and school involvement in fostering students' digital literacy and self-regulation in using social media.
